Every pain holds a promise, a deep secret capable of helping us to know ourselves. If we allow ourselves to be with our pain, to get to know it, to allow ourselves to be vulnerable before it, we will find that it is like our saviour. It is what lights the lamp in the dark night inside us and helps us to connect with what is truly our spirit self. No one has walked our path. No one knows the subtle ways that light burns within us, within our cells. No one has heard nor knows our wounds, our pain as we do. Sufis say that pain is the place through which the light enters us. And indeed it is! Without our pain, we cannot open, become vulnerable, we know not love, our hearts. Our pain teaches us humility and gratitude for being a part of this so very perfect and harmonious creation. As we become aware of this, we get to know our place and respect everyone else’s place, because we know that everything is weighing in its place and is where it needs to be. In this place of inner wisdom, we stop judging and needing to be cruel to ourselves and others. This is where we find true grace. The light that flows through our body and blesses us. Some people may call this forgiveness. I would call it our invitation to give back the love given to us freely and to make it beautiful, to give it wings, to make it a song, a creation. To create beauty with it, a beauty with which we bow to creation. Our pain is a process through which we find spirit and let light shine in the darkness, it is us finding our way. It is us, finding our calling and how we may give from our hearts. One of the most important things in life is to find that grace. That wellspring of union with the Creator. There we know humility, true humility, which in actuality is the song of creation itself. Yes, humility, wholeness! It is there, where everything outside of us and within us becomes one – an inexhaustible source of inspiration. True creativity is inspired by the creator. It is born in our union with him.
